Apple Devices App does not do anything

I have been using iTunes for over 15 years... never had it crash during an OS push. Since you can't update an iPad with only 32GB of space OTA, I have been using iTunes to push updates to it. Today, that stopped working trying to update from iPad 18.1.1 to 18.2. iTunes just crashed. As a result, I googled what the current method is. And the internet provided a worse solution... Apple Devices. This application does nothing. I does see that I have an iPad connected, but when I push the "Restore iPad..." button, the button image flickers and then does nothing. I can't eject the device.

I have rebooted my Windows 11 computer a few times hoping that iTunes would come back to me, but it still keeps crashing during the OS push to the iPad.

Epic Failure Apple.

This application has gone from bad to worse. I closed out of the Apple Devices app and now it won't even launch.

I never had a problem updating my three previous iPads with the iTunes app. But with this new lame Apple Devices App, crippled for Windows users, have disabled my iPad every time I tried to run an update. I think this is the third update where this has happened. It seems that the part of the update that removes the current iPad system works perfectly. But when the Devices App is loading the new update, it stalls when the progress bar gets to the halfway point. Once that happens, the "Update" button is disabled, and the "Restore" button does nothing except indicate that it is being pressed. Apple's Help pages seem to assume that everybody has a Macintosh computer, so it it is not much help.

I ultimately had to go to a friend’s who had a Mac to fix my iPad. So I am right here with you. The app is so broken and I can’t figure out how to get support.

to make matters worse, my niece has locked herself out of her iPad. So I brought it home with the intention to reset it, but the Devices App does the same thing as it did for my iPad. It will see it as connected, but the Reset button doesn’t do anything. So disappointing.

Jarvitron, I see that your responses keep getting removed. I am getting the emails with your responses however. It sounds like you have the same issue that we are experiencing. If you know someone with a Mac, there is a 3rd option not available to the Windows version of Apple Devices. I don't remember what it's called but it allows someone on a newer Mac to push out a clean copy of the iPadOS without wiping out your settings and data. This is what was done to fix my iPad. Unfortunately, my car is now in the shop, so I won't be able to visit my friend to get my nieces iPad fixed.
