I want to find a way to scroll with a side tab on my iMac

In other words, change System Settings > Appearance > Show scroll bars to "Always" if that's better for you.

I haven't scrolled a window with the "thumb" (that's what it is called) in about a decade. I haven't had a mouse in longer than that. Scrolling is primarily done with gestures on the Magic Mouse or Trackpad, or with a scroll wheel on a third-party mouse. As the others noted, you can enable the scroll bar and thumb in System settings.

It's invisible until you move your cursor to the right hand of the screen in a browser
