Issue with the "Picture in Picture" Functionality in macOS

Problem Description

Picture-in-Picture (PiP) allows users to watch videos in a floating window while using other applications. It’s an incredibly useful tool for multitasking. However, I’ve encountered an annoying issue: every time I switch to the desktop or press F3 (Mission Control), the video in the PiP window freezes. The sound continues to play but the image is static.

The image remains static until the video is reloaded or opened.

Steps to reproduce the problem

Playing a video in Picture-in-Picture mode.

Go to the desktop (swipe three fingers on the trackpad) or activate Mission Control (F3).

The video freezes and becomes unresponsive.

Possible causes

At first glance, the issue appears to be related to how macOS handles graphics resources when switching between windows or activating Mission Control. The PiP window may stop updating frames due to a change in focus context.

Attempts to resolve the issue

Restarted the video.

Disabled and re-enabled PiP.

Unfortunately, none of these attempts resolved the issue.

Why this matters

PiP is designed to make video playback more convenient, especially when multitasking. Its malfunctioning slows down macOS performance and causes inconvenience to users.
