I think you are referencing the Dynamic Island? It's a software/hardware feature that replaces the notch at the top of the display on previous iPhones on iPhone 14 Pro and newer. The Dynamic Island cannot be removed or turned off as it houses the camera/FaceID.

The purpose of the Dynamic Island is to display ongoing activities (such as timers, music, Uber, etc.) by expanding its borders. To dismiss an activity in the Dynamic Island, simply swipe from right to left on top of it.

Are you referring to the Dynamic Island? If so, that’s a feature. It gets bigger or smaller depending on how it’s being used with different apps.

It's the dynamic island, you can't remove it or make it smaller. It will also enlarge itself when it has more information to display.
