Gmail Stopped Autofilling Email Addresses From My Contacts
I recently purchased a new iPhone 13.
Gmail is no longer autofilling email addresses on my phone from my Apple or Gmail contacts. It is working on my Macbook Pro, however. I have spoken to Apple to see if the problem was on their end and all settings on the phone and laptop seem to be correct and the same as on my previous phone which did autofill in Gmail.
Please note, I DO NOT want email suggestions to appear when I open a new email to compose. I want the “To:” field to autofill when I begin typing an email address from my contacts.
Operating systems are up to date. All contacts are correct in my Gmail and Apple Contacts app. I have attempted every solution I have found online via Googling and Perplexity AI but none corrected the problem, including deleting and reinstalling Gmail app several times.
This solution, below, too, did not work. On the 8th step, “General” does not even appear in the Gmail account menu so there is no option related to autocomplete or smart features.
To enable Gmail email address autofill on iPhone 13, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone 13.
- Scroll down and tap on "Passwords"6.
- Tap on "AutoFill Passwords" and ensure it is turned on6.
- Open the Gmail app on your iPhone 136.
- Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner6.
- Scroll down and tap on "Settings"6.
- Select your Gmail account6.
- Under the "General" section, look for options related to autocomplete or smart features.
Another glitch I want to fix: “Suggestions" sometimes appear and when I press/hold that contact to show “Hide Suggestion,” clicking on that option doesn’t work and the suggestion remains. What setting will prevent email suggestions from appearing in the first place.
Can anyone please advise as to how to get autofill to work correctly and how to prevent suggestions from appearing? Thanks!
