Can no longer select all or delete all emails in IOS 18.2

Just updated to IOS 18.2 and the edit button at the top of emails is missing and I can no longer select all or delete all emails on my iPad (7th gen). I have looked everywhere to no avail, so I do not think it has been moved. Is anyone else having this issue and is there a fix? Or do we just have to wait for Apple….?

As well with looking at the trash folder, there is no longer the option to select all and empty the trash all at once.

Hopefully this is just an oversight(bug)

Thank you for your quick reply, however, I did find that article and none of that worked! What does work, however, is holding 2 fingers on an email and quickly letting go and then the select/delete options appear. Quite a round-about way to get to it, but it works. I do prefer the old way when the “select” was simply at the top right. That is just blank now! 😢

For reasons known only to Apple, when using the native Mail App, the Inbox doesn't have a Select All button. However, you can easily and rapidly select multiple mail messages - and then select Delete...

If required, start by searching the mailbox by Sender or suitable keyword - and/or combining with a filtered view in the Mail App sidebar:

Next, either tap the Select/Edit button at top-right of the Mail sidebar - or tap with two fingers within the sidebar; simply swipe your finger down (or up) the left-side of the message list to bulk select Mail Messages. Swipe below the bottom edge to rapidly select all the visible email messages.

Once selected, tap the Delete button at the bottom of the sidebar.

If you have mail categories switched on (primary, transactions, updates, promotions), just swipe the cards to the left (one finger swipe works) to reveal ‘All Mail’.

Click “Select” in the top right corner.

You then see the “Select All” option on the left, like you used to have.

It wasn’t obvious that there was one more category available.

I also can't delete any emails at all in any folder. This makes it super difficult to find emails and their new categories systems doesn't make this easier. Also, there were new companies that I got deliveries from and others that used to end up in my junk folder. Now there is nothing in my junk folder. So what, now I'll always miss important emails???

Turn off categories

You can quickly view all emails in an inbox. Swipe left on the categories at the top of the inbox to open All Mail.

  1. Go to the Mail app  on your iPhone.
  2. In an inbox, tap  at the top of the screen, then choose List View.

We have the select button but it no longer gives you the option to “select all”. This means you have to go one by one. Not convenient at all when you have multiple mailboxes.

Have you read my earlier reply to this thread of 21st December - in which I describe a method to quickly select and delete multiple mail messages?
