Incorrect badge notifications on messages (SOLUTION)

There was a post a few years ago about iMessage badge showing incorrect and sometimes inflated number of unread messages. Some suggested to have Siri read unread messages but if you have a high number of unread messages that could take long. A Community Specialist recommended you mark/tag all messages as read. However, that didn’t fix the issue either. He was somewhat correct though. Just missed a step. Do this instead…

QUICK SOLUTION:

1. Launch the Messages app
2. Scroll down as far back as a year or whenever you remember the badge problem began
3. Wait a few seconds or a minute to allow all messages in that timeframe to load.
4. Tap edit (…) on top
5. Tap Select Messages
6. Tap Read All on the lower left-hand corner

That should do it. Badges should reset. You’re welcome!
