M1 Max MacBook Pro Consistently Fails to Detect SD Card.

My 16 inch M1 Max MacBook Pro consistently fails to detect SD cards when inserted into the card reader. It will eventually detect them after removing and inserting multiple times. What is going on and how can I fix it?

Before people suggest other issues:

• This has happened since I first bought the computer.
• It happens with all the SD cards I own, from various manufacturers including brand new ones.
• The same SD cards have no issues in cameras or other readers.
• This is not an issue with giving the computer time to detect the card. If you insert it and it does not recognize the card immediately giving it more time will not work.
• My SD card reader does not appear to be damaged.
• The only solution I have found is to remove and insert the SD card multiple times. Eventually, after the third or fourth attempt the computer will detect the card reader.
• I am not the only one this has happened to, a quick Google shows this is a widespread issue.
