MacBook Pro password doesn't work even when its correct

I have a new MacBook M4 and it's great but I use it in clamshell mode and the correct password often doesn't work. I have to open it up and use my finger. I use a magic keyboard and that's not the issue. I've tried changing the password and that doesn't fix it either.
