I have a new MacBook M4 and it's great but I use it in clamshell mode and the correct password often doesn't work. I have to open it up and use my finger. I use a magic keyboard and that's not the issue. I've tried changing the password and that doesn't fix it either.

Try to start up in Safe mode then normal boot which could solve your issue.
If it doesn't work, try to make another admin account and login with it if it works.
