Distorted audio while paying music on my MacBook Pro

A few days ago my refurb mac-os MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), started producing distorted noise on the music audio. I am not sure why this happened, or if I could have done something to cause the issue? Would the issue be purely physical or is it possible to test with settings to find out whats wrong?

Is this distortion happening with any source - iTunes/Apple Music, the web, QuickTime Player etc? If so, then if you haven't tried just restarting the Mac, you should give that a try and see if it helps. Also, if this is with the internal speakers, try an external set and see if the problem remains. If not, then it's likely to be an issue with the build-in sound chip or the speakers, though some other things you can try can be found here:

The internal speakers of the MBPro 2013-2015 models (both 13" & 15" models) have an extremely high rate of failure as the laptops age. It seems the speaker cones degrade which causes weak speakers and more often distortion. You will need to use headphones or external speakers. Replacing the speakers is not worth it since you will only find used speakers that will likely have the issue (or soon will).

Plus to replace the speakers o the 15" model requires removing all internal components which is not advisable.

My second-hand MBk-Pro 15” 2013 retina came to me with speakers that were ok, but as I had an external optical drive for music and dvd films, they started to fail. I used preferences to listen to each side. My right side speaker is very poor now so just leave the setting shifted away from the problem.

Someone suggested external wired or Bluetooth speakers. At the time some replacement speakers were available from resellers, not sure about now.
