magic keyboard azerty (2024, usb c) output is qwerty on ipad air 2024

I bought a Magic Keyboard (2024, usb-c) azerty for my iPad Air (2024, M2). For starters the connection gets lost when you remove the usb-c câble from either device, however the documents say it will be connected through Bluetooth. Bluetooth however seems unable to find the device unfortunately. Bigger issue is that all output from the keyboard on my iPad is in qwerty instead of azerty! There seems to be no way of changing it on my iPad however. Anyone any idea how to solve this?
