How to open a .pkpass file on your iPhone when it does not seem to work

This is not a question, but just feedback with a solution.

From my airline company I used to get my boarding pass in attachment as .pkpass, which I could seamlessly open and add to my Wallet. (I read my Gmail with a Firefox browser, no app. On purpose.)

They have changed something and now I get an e-mail with a link which -depending on the brower- does something else:

(1) Firefox or Brave or Chrome : it proposes to download the file, and then when I open the file it does not get added to the Wallet

(2) Safari : it does not propose to download the file, but instead it immediately proposes to add it to the Wallet.

I do not use Safari as default browser. So my work around is to copy the link from the e-mail and open it from within Safari. That works.

An alternative that also works is when I e-mail myself the .pkpass as attachment, and then click on the attachment in my mail client.

I don't know if the problem lies at the airline company's way of doing, or in some change in iOS.

The problem exists because you’re using methods that scammers and fraudsters use. Apple, banks and airlines all monitor activity to keep people safe.

If you want software and hardware to work the way they’re supposed to, stop playing games.

The Patriot Act requires that lenders, banks etc obtain a confirmed ID.

“To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.”
