Best way to transfer data from iPhone 12 to iPhone 16 and keep apps running

Hi,

I am upgrading from an iPhone 12 to a 16 and want to know the best way to transfer data. Is it iCloud backup, Apple’s direct transfer service from one phone to other using Wi-Fi or USBC cable or another way?

I want the most effective so all apps continue to work as seamless as possible (banking, WhatsApp etc).

thank you.

Are you already using an eSIM in your 12?

If not, and you’re in the U.S. you might want to review this short article before converting to eSIM:

About eSIM on iPhone - Apple Support

Apple’s transfer processes ALWAYS amaze me at how well they REALLY DO work!

Only suggestions:

  • Don’t even begin the process if you’re in any sort of a time crunch or if there are outside distractions. Proceed slowly and stay focused on where you are in the task.

  • CAREFULLY read EVERY screen prompt … TWICE. Be sure of exactly what it’s asking for you to enter. (some entries refer to your new phone; others to your old; others to your AppleID)

  • Don’t attempt make any “changes” in the course of the transfer. (e.g. don’t change your passcode or password) Just get everything moved-over as-is first. You can make any changes later.

  • You’ll need to setup your FaceID AND you’ll need to re-verify any financial cards in your wallet (usually by reentering the card’s CVV) so make sure they are available.
