Apple Pencil (USB C type) not connecting to 10th Gen iPad

Hello and Merry Christmas to all in the Apple community.

My problem is: Apple Pencil (USB C type) not connecting to 10th Gen iPad.

Apple Pencil connects to iPad Pro.
iPad up to date.
Followed instructions from Apple Support page (i.e., connect and restart).
Is compatible.

At a loss what to do next. Any suggestions?
