display resolution issue
This morning I started up my Mac mini with M1 chip, circa 2022.
I have it hooked up to a Samsung tv/monitor via HDMI connection.
The Samsung monitor is about 12 years old.
The system preference for display did not show the Samsung's
resolution as an alternative. It only showed two default(?)
resolutions.
When the Mini started it started with non conforming, minimal resolution.
So, my questions is: does anyone here have knowledge that might shed
light on this issue? Is it possibly indicating troubles with the mini video card
or would it more likely be the Samsung monitor failing to send its resolution?
The setup I have has been working fine until today.
What happened is that I had shut it down and turned to another machine that
I have. Then when I did that I realized I did not have a piece of web development
that I used on the mini on localhost (dev designation of the machine itself rather
than another machine on the network). So I had to turn the mini back on to copy
the software over to the other machine. When I started the mini up a second time
it was fine with no display issues. The display preference panel did have the monitors
resolution as the selected (and visually proper) resolution.
One other piece of data may be useful:
I have the mini hooked up to the monitor via HDMI cable. But it is not actually connect
directly to the monitor. I have a "KVM" (HDMI/USB) 4 terminal switch that I have 3
minis connected to. Then the switch is connected directly to the monitor.
The Mini I am asking about is the newest, with Sequoia. The switch allows three
machines to use the same monitor, mouse and keyboard.
Thank you for time and attention
