To power down iPhone must authenticate

To Power down your device you must enter a code or facial recognition!

why not?

If someone picks up your phone and THEY can’t shut it off, you can still find it. So they would either need to enter the code or facial recognition to shut the device off.

is this to much to ask ? If it is leave it as an option for people who do want to do that.

Why not? Because it would serve no real purpose and would make basic troubleshooting difficult if not impossible.

Modern iphones can be tracked and located after being powered off.

Thieves have ways to prevent devices from being able to communicate or report a location even when powered on. Faraday bags and the like are readily available.

This suggestion comes up fairly frequently. On the surface, it may sound like a good idea, but it’s not.
