The only way to know is to purchase from Apple or Authorized Apple seller. For any third party purchase the odds are not in your favor as the counterfeit AirPod market is huge. There is not serial number check you can do as the counterfeiter simply copy the serial number from a legit pair of AirPods. For counterfeit AirPods you can see:
- Poor Audio Quality
- Poor Range
- No Apple Care
- Find My may not work
- Noise Cancellation may not work
- Poor Battery performance
