Unable to pair my Apple Pencil USB-C to iPad 10th Gen

I have recently purchased an apple pencil usb C for my iPad 10th generation and I am unable to connect it. There are no pop ups to say the pencil is detected. I have reset all settings, Bluetooth, network etc, even reset the ipad to factory settings. Both ipad and pencil have been charged. I have tried connecting through the original ipad cable and nothing works. Apple have confirmed the 2 are compatible.

I have also taken the pencil back to the store and replaced it incase it was faulty. Any advise please?
