"The probability that a random person in the population could look at your iPhone X and unlock it using Face ID is approximately 1 in 1,000,000 (versus 1 in 50,000 for Touch ID). As an additional protection, Face ID allows only five unsuccessful match attempts before a passcode is required. The statistical probability is different for twins and siblings that look like you and among children under the age of 13, because their distinct facial features may not have fully developed. If you're concerned about this, we recommend using a passcode to authenticate. You can also use Face ID without enabling Face ID with a mask."

"Also consider that if you two look alike, and this person knows your passcode.. every time they enter your passcode the iPhone will start 'learning' like it's an alternate appearance of you. So you could try setting up Face ID again, changing your passcode, make sure no one else is in the cameras view, don't share your passcode." - My family can unlock my iPhone Face ID - Apple Community

It is possible that Face ID might unlock the device for you and your sister if the two of you have very similar looks (and if you're twins, that's even more possible). Reset Face ID settings and change your passcode to make sure your sister doesn't know it, then see if she can still unlock it. If she still can unlock it, then you and your sister look alike enough so Face ID cannot distinguish difference between two of you. While quite secure, Face ID and similar biometric security systems are not perfect.

If it continues to be an issue, you can turn off Face ID and just use your passcode.

Regards.

It’s possible … and more so with siblings … but I’m always skeptical.

Does you sister know your passcode? (she shouldn’t)

Suggest the following:

  • Be ALONE with your phone in a room.
  • Change your passcode to something only you know.
  • Reset your FaceID (this will erase all “faces” stored in the device)
  • Setup your own face for BOTH appearance. This places your face in both “memory slots” so no one else can add their face without first erasing yours.

Now … see if your sister can STILL unlock your phone.

If so, congrats; you two are indeed statistical anomalies. 🎉
