How can I update macOS High Sierra to Monterrey on a 2016 12-inch Macbook?

Hi,

I know that my macbook supports Monterey.

But when I try to find it in App Store, it's not there. Eventually I found a way to install it by going into recovery mode. I was able to find the OS and tried installing it. It kept going on for 2-3 hours, and then toward the end got an error about a server not found.

I was connected to power, have ample HD space, and had WiFi, so we can rule out these issues.

I got too mad to take a screenshot and ragequit everything, but has anyone successfully updated their macbooks recentely?

I know it's a 2016 laptop, so maybe it's just too old, but doesn't hurt to ask?
