Problems adding new SUICA transit card via wallet app. Money charged - but cannot add card

I’m heading off to Japan in a few weeks and saw that it is now possible to add a Suica transit card via Apple Wallet following these instructions - Add a Suica, PASMO or ICOCA card to Apple Wallet – Apple Support (UK).


I was asked to agree terms and conditions and choose an amount to add (I went for ¥3000). The charge showed instantly in my bank, but when I tried to add the card to wallet (final step) I got an error to the effect of - 'card can not be added, please try again later'. Now I can see no way to 'add the card later' without going through the whole process again and adding more funds (which I am reluctant to do).


Has anyone had a similar problem? Is it likely the pending bank charge will be reversed given the card failed to add? Is there a step I’m missing? Or have I just lost ¥3000?

That’s the issue. Please delete the VPN software and profile. Once those are removed, please reset your network settings and restart your iPhone.


Please follow this path to find the profile,


iPhone > Settings > General > scroll down > VPN & Device Management > delete anything related to the VPN


Reset your network settings


If you're using iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.


If you're using iOS or iPadOS 14 or earlier, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.
