iPhone 16 Front Infrared Light flashing at night 30 min intervals

I have security cameras in my house and last night I accidentally left my iPhone 16 Pro in the living room, where there is a camera.

I had lots of movement activations in the morning and on reviewing them it was the infrared light on my iPhone flashing for 2 minutes every 30 minutes without fail. It only stopped at sunrise.

id like to know why this is happening, what the phone is doing and how to switch it off please.

infrared light can be seen for miles outside in the darkness so I would say that this is also a security concern for those that do certain jobs.

an explanation and a way to disable it would be appreciated. Thanks.

The True Depth camera will periodically scan for what’s in front of it. Attention awareness features and biometric features require the True Depth.

You can turn off Attention Awareness at the path below,

iPhone > Settings > Face ID & Passcode > enter passcode > Require Attention for Face ID > disable

iPhone > Settings > Face ID & Passcode > enter passcode > Attention Awareness Features > disable

If someone was in a covert job, they wouldn't have their phone out where the light from the screen would give their location away far more than a small infrared light or talking on the phone where they could be heard.

It sounds like you're just making stuff up for shock value.
