Siri activation limitation with HyperX SoloCast USB microphone on Mac mini M4
Hi everyone,
I recently connected my HyperX SoloCast USB microphone to my Mac Mini with an M4 chip, and I noticed that I can’t activate Siri using the trigger words “Siri” or “Hey Siri” with this setup.
When I checked the **Apple -> System Settings -> Apple Intelligence and Siri** menu, I saw a note under the “Listen for” setting that says, *"When supported headphones are connected, say 'Siri' or 'Hey Siri' and your request."*
This made me wonder—why are USB microphones like the HyperX SoloCast excluded from this functionality?
The HyperX SoloCast is a high-quality, cardioid USB microphone capable of recording at 16-bit audio with a 48kHz sample rate, ensuring accurate voice capture. Compared to Bluetooth headphones like AirPods or AirPods Max, which use a lossy audio compression standard that reduces sound fidelity, a USB microphone offers superior audio quality.
Considering these advantages, it seems logical to allow USB microphones to be used for Siri activation. Has anyone else encountered this limitation? Are there any known workarounds or plans to expand Siri activation compatibility for high-quality external microphones?
I’d greatly appreciate any insights or advice on this.
Thanks in advance!
