Xbox One Controller (Model 1537) not working on Mac Mini

I have a Mac Mini (2020)/M1 that is on MacOS 15.2 (24C101). I have a XboxOne Controller (Model 1537-the one without bluetooth) and it won't connect. When I go to system settings-> general -> system report -> USB, it shows up. However, the controller isn't showing up in my devices list. When I turn it on, the controller light blinks and then turns off. I tried putting the controller into pairing mode but no luck.

I bought a new USB-A to Micro USB cable (which supports data) that works with other things on my mac but not the controller. The cable also works as expected when you use the xbox controller on a PC.

I am trying to use it on a Steam Game that supports Xbox controllers. I also tried using the 360Contoller to see if that would do anything but I didn't have luck with that either. Is there anything I can do to make this work or is that model of Xbox One controller incompatible with MacOS?

Thanks!

that model will never work

the original xbone came with a controller which did not use Bluetooth but some proprietary Microsoft means of communication, it will never work with anything but xboxs

when microsoft made the xbox one s they switch to bluetooth and the controllers from thereafter will work with windows, macs, ios devices, and likely linux computers too.
