iPhone Notification Sound but Screen Doesn't Turn On

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing a strange issue with my iPhone. Whenever my phone is turned off (or in a locked state), I receive notifications, and I can hear the sound of them, but the screen doesn’t turn on automatically. Instead, I have to tap the screen to see the notification,

Details:

  • Device: iPhone 14 pro
  • iOS Version: 18.2
  • Steps Taken: i tried to update my phone to the latest version ,erase all setting and also reset my phone with loss data and nothing happened

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions or fixes would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

If Do Not Disturb (DND) or a Focus Mode is active, notifications can still be delivered with sound or vibration, but the screen may not wake up, depending on how the Focus settings are configured.

If you have Focus Modes set to allow notifications only with certain exceptions (e.g., from specific people or apps), your phone will still make a sound for those notifications but may not display them on the screen unless the phone is unlocked or actively in use.

See the pic below which is self-explnatory

So in summary, the sounds for notifications can still happen when DND or a Focus mode is enabled if the apps or senders are allowed within those settings. However, the screen waking up is a separate behavior that depends on your Focus mode configuration and whether it allows notifications to trigger the screen wake.
