Where are unassigned midi signals stored within the channel strips

By default Mainstage sends all unassigned control changes to the channel strips within a particular patch. But, where exactly are these stored?

For example, if I'm on patch #1, and my keyboard sens CC#7 (volume) it only affects the channel strips within patch #1; any other patch remains unaffected. If I go back to patch #1 it retains the CC value. But, I can't seem to find where that is stored. Thanks.
