Kensingtonworks software issues with Expert Mouse on MacBook Air

I used to have a Kensington Expert Mouse and loved it. Then Kensington brought out its Kensingtonworks software and all **** broke loose. The cursor jumped everywhere, wouldn't scroll without skipping, etc. etc. I tried downloading the last version of the software and it still did the same things. I checked around and everywhere Mac people were having similar problems. I finally gave away my Expert Mouse and got a Magic Trackpad, which works beautifully, but is now hurting my fingers from pressing on it. I would love to get another trackball, but don't know if they've fixed the software (and I don't want to buy another trackball just to find out). Does anyone know if the latest Kensingtonworks release has fixed all the problems? (For Heaven's sake, Kensington was originally made for Macs!!) Is there another driver that can be used the the K. trackball?

Kensingtonworks was last updated almost a year ago, so if you were using it more recently than that, then no, they probably haven't fixed the problems, if those were due to that software. If yours predated that release, then it might have been fixed, though given that they don't mention compatibility past macOS 10.15 Catalina I'm not confident. I'm not aware of any third-party software that will work with a trackball, sorry to say.

As an option for your trackpad, have you tried setting it to "Tap to click"? With that set you don't have to push down on the trackpad, just tap it. Might be worth trying if you haven't already.

If an external mouse was having the same problem, then I would suspect something amiss with your Mac, not with the trackball. But it's probably rather a moot point unless you get another pointing device. Logitech is the most popular alternate brand, though there are others. Try to buy from a store that offers a return policy so if you still have problems or the device doesn't suit you, you can return it.
