Repeated DNS failures on my MacBook Pro

I have an 16" M3 Pro, MBP 11/2023, Sonoma 14.7 (although I also saw the issue on an older M2 model).

I keep having instances where my internet connection hangs for 1-30 minutes. A reboot usually seems to solve it.

The logs show DNS resolution failure. I have experimented with various DNS servers listed below (and having anywhere between 2 and 10 of them in my DNS list), but I still see the issue on both my Comcast cable modem and my neighbor's Sonic fiber box.

What's the recommended way to resolve this?

Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

Google: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

OpenDNS: 280.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Comcast: 75.75.75.75 and 76.76.76.76

Comcast: 2001:558:feed::1 and 2001:558:feed::2

from the sounds of your error logs, you are typing stuff that cannot be resolved into 'regular' numeric internet phone numbers. it is very unusual to have it hang there. I think something else must be going on.

when your DNS has issues, it goes to the next DNS server in the list. Some, like Comcast, are more likely to send you to THEIR intercept page when that happens.
