how to create Spatial video with 2 camera videos in FCP 11

I used 2 Panasonic box cameras to shoot right and left eye for 3d/Spatial footage. The cameras had a time code generator and gen lock. I import the footage into a new fcp 11 project set to Spatial video but how to I make it into a side by side format? In the view window using side by side it only shows the same camera view on both sides and when I tried to export I get an error that they are not formatted for Spatial.

I've not worked with spatial video so I just did some searches to see if there's a way to combine separate videos. The docs say FCP can import, edit, and export spatial video, typically shot on an iPhone, but nothing about making it. Intro to stereo and spatial video in Final Cut Pro for Mac - Apple Support

Another way might be to create a side-by-side video (3840x1080) in FCP, export and then run that through Compressor to create an MV-HEVC video? Encode spatial video from stereoscopic source media for Apple Vision Pro in Compressor - Apple Support

Maybe you can use the free and open source Spatial CLI tool to combine separate videos into a spatial format that FCP understands. https://github.com/Kartaverse/Spatial-Metadata

The Spatial CLI docs suggest this is possible:

  • make: Makes a MV-HEVC spatial video or spatial photo from a stereo-formatted input or two separate inputs (first for the left eye and second for the right eye).

Hi Terry your idea worked! It's a bit clunky but it's a start. I made my screen as you said 3840 wide then did the split screen, after the output from fcp I used Spatial CLI in place of compressor to convert it to a Spatial video. I'm going to try a screen size of 7680 as the cameras shot in 4k each and the Vision Pro screens are 4k for each eye. Probably then I'll have to use compressor to get to a true 4k per screen but we will see... So thank you:)

Hopefully there is way to do all of it in fcp as a Spatial project from the start.
