IOS 18.2 email now working with my IMAP Mail service

Got a new iPhone 16 in Fall 2024 but when checking IMAP email, using 18.0 it only showed “Inbox” and none of the folders under that. Did not show any (new/incoming) emails in that account. IOS 18.1 did not resolve the issue. Still works fine on my IOS 17 devices. Why did Apple break Mail for some IMAP mail services?

(Works OK for Google and Apple email accounts.)

UPDATE: IOS 18.2 update appears to have solved the problem (with some tweaking by my IMAP mail service provider) and problem is solved.

Are you blocking "mask.icloud.com" and/or "mask-h2.icloud.com" by chance? Those are sometimes blocked by dns-based malware-blockers / ad-blockers / filtering DNS services to prevent bypassing the filter via Apple Private Relay.

In Apple iOS 18.2 Apple mail, those are used for some reason nobody understands when Mail uses IMAP. See Mail cannot function in IOS 18.2 if iClou… - Apple Community

Will hopefully be fixed in 18.3 because this is extremely annoying.

A little more context for the doubters. I have 3 email addresses on the same server (Aplus). Two addresses work and one doesn't. It connects to the same Aplus server just fine (so nothing wrong with passwords or SSL settings) but refuses to populate the IMAP folders of that one address.

I've deleted and added addresses in various orders and wiped my iPad completely and reinstalled iOS 18.2 for yucks and it's broken as well in the same fashion.

All addresses fine in Outlook on PC and iOS, at home and outside Wi-Fi networks, and on cellular.

Definitely broken on iOS Mail. If Apple has gotten strict about some attribute of IMAP protocols, they've really caused some headaches.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

Believe me, I have tried everything. IMAP worked in all previous iOS versions, it doesn't now. This is an Apple bug. It works just fine on PCs.

What makes troubleshooting difficult here is that, for most people, it works just fine on their iPhones, too. So it is likely that it is not an iOS bug (or it is obscure and caused by fairly unusual situations) and that it will not be fixed by subsequent updates.
