How do I fix Facebook posting issues with Clean Up edits using my iPad?

I’m having an issue with the Clean Up function in Photos. After removing unwanted items in a picture using Clean Up, I’m unable to post it to Facebook. Other editing functions work without an issue (crop, filters, etc.). I can also screenshot the edited picture and post it without an issue. It’s as if using Clean Up converts the image to a format that Facebook won’t allow. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I've tried AirDropping a picture I modified with Clean Up on my iPad, and the image arrived at my Mac "cleaned up." I saved it to Files and to iCloud Drive, and it arrived safely. I shared it on Messages and Mail just fine. I uploaded the "cleaned up" image to Google Images via Safari, and it was indeed "cleaned up."

I'm not sure what the difference can be. Since it worked in Safari with Google Images, it seems like it should work with anything else using Safari. You don't say what OS you're using, but my iPad is on iPadOS 18.2.

What happens if you Share>Save to Files and upload to Facebook from Files?

Thanks, Richard. I'm using an iPad Pro with iPadOS 18.2 as well. It's actually my wife's new iPad and she is NOT pleased with it! LOL

I just tried saving it to Files and then uploading to Facebook and it worked - so at least I have that! I'm wondering if maybe the Clean Up function changes the file format to something Facebook doesn't recognize, but then saving it to an alternate location puts it back in a recognizable format. It seems like it's an unnecessary extra step, though, and I should be able to upload my photos directly to Facebook after they've been edited, just as with other pictures which have been edited in a different way. Thanks again for your help!

Try it with something other than FaceBook. I used a picture of a flower at

https://images.google.com/

and it worked OK like everything else. If that works for you, then you know that it's FaceBook, not you.

If it doesn't work with other uploads like Google Images, then to narrow things down, try these steps:

  • Restart the computer (of course)
  • Re-start in Safe Mode. This bypasses certain potentially disruptive processes, and it often helps. Safe Mode is different for different computers, so see this:

Those are the easiest things to try first. Then try these:

  • Use another library if you have one, or make a small test Library with a few pictures in it and see if the same thing happens. You can create a new Library by closing Photos and then option-clicking on the Photos icon.
  • Make a new user and see if the same problem recurs with it
  • Rebuild your Photos Library--close Photos and re-launch by option-command-clicking the app icon.

The idea is to find out if the problem is with the Library, with your account, or with caches and login items, and stuff like that. One of these steps may fix the problem, but their failure to work also helps figure out what's happening.
