Will Apple TV 4K model improve my 55’ LED TV?

i have an LCD television. is there any benefit in adding a 4K apple tv to this? I was hoping for better picture quality and responsiveness. But if it is an LCD 55’ I wonder if there is any benefit getting 4K Apple TV. A pig with a hat on is a pig. But it is wearing a hat.

Any thoughts well received.

It could make a tremendous difference (or not). It depends on several variables that all need to line up. Some of the variables:

  • Does your TV support 4K resolution (just because it's large does not make it 4K)?
  • Does your current media player support 4K (e.g. older Apple TV, Roku, built into TV)?
  • Does the service that you will be using on the streaming device support 4K content (e.g. YouTube TV, Hulu, Fubo, etc.)?
  • Is the content that you will be streaming available in 4K?

The short answer is that if your TV has 4K resolution then using a new Apple TV 4K is future proofing even if not everything else aligns. In real-world usage, you would expect that some content is in 4K and some will not be.

One benefit of Apple TV over all of the other options is for privacy. Every single other media play on the market are privacy and advertising nightmares that aggressively collect data about you and everything you watch. That is not how Apple makes money and therefore your privacy is protected more than any other streaming device.

Thank you all for your help and how quickly you provided your expertise.

I was wondering whether an Apple TV 4K would remove the need for buying a new telly. My one is relatively old with 1080p. So, on the down side an Apple TV 4K isn’t going to make my telly picture better.

BUT, on plus side, I have a new telly to buy 🥳🥳🥳.

Thanks again. Happy New Year.

The display type (OLED/LCD/…) doesn’t really matter. There should be a better HDR-Output with an OLED-Screen (Apple TV 4K has support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision) but that’s not the main thing. If your TV has a 4K Screen and isn’t a smart TV, there is some reason for getting an Apple TV:

  • better image quality
  • streaming from YouTube/Netflix/Apple TV/Disney+/…
  • other features like FaceTime for Apple TV

just some things that would get me buying an Apple TV. Hope I could help out!
