latency, clicking and a semitone lower on audio tracks in Garageband 10.4.11

Got a New mac mini M4, When using Garageband 10.4.11 I get latency, clinking while audio is sustained and the note on guitar is a semitone lower then the instrument itself ? can't change buffer size in latest GB version, tried unplugging everything, deleting and reinstalling GB, changing audio inputs etc to no avail ! I'm using a M-audio two channel audio interface that M-audio say doesn't require any drivers for mac. when i see the audio bar in preferences/sound /input it seems to be triggered in time with the sound coming in so doesn't look like it's the interface ? but is delayed with the above issues when using GB so I guess it's a GB issue ? any help please ?
