Nothing can be recommended other than service by Apple. If there is further damage due to the swollen battery, you will be advised on the options. At that time, if it is repairable, you will need to determine if the cost of repair outweighs the purchase of a new device.

thanks for the reply, wouldn’t this be covered? It may be a faulty battery

If it was refurbished by Apple, then the standard warranty would be one year from the date of purchase, just as with a new Mac. If you purchased AppleCare+ at the same time (or within 60 days), then that extends the coverage to a total of three years from the date of purchase. Either way the coverage has expired by now unless you renewed the plan or purchased the month-to-month AppleCare coverage which may still be in effect unless you cancelled it. You can check coverage here:

If someone else did the "refurbishment" then you purchased a used Mac and any warranty would be through the seller.

Regards.

Take care of this immediately. A swollen battery is dangerous. If it bursts it will explode. For safety, remove it from your house/apartment. Get it serviced ASAP.
