Rogue iPhone/CarPlay audio source switching

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 18. I have a 2020 Toyota RAV4 with the current operating system and I run CarPlay using a wireless Bluetooth device because the wired connection was a complete fail.

My problem is that the iPhone appears to generate a switch from the cars satellite SiriusXM audio to the iPhone audio every time I inhale.

I am constantly having to manually switch the CarPlay audio source back to SiriusXM from my car and that’s an activity that takes up at least 20% of every drive.

What I’m looking for is a solution where I can tell my iPhone to please wait for me to ask for an audio source switch.

I have performed all of the troubleshooting that I have found on this site with making sure there’s no automation all the different toggling things on and off restarting resetting all of it nothing fixes this problem.

Since the switch is always from the car to the iPhone, audio source never going in the alternate direction I believe this problem to be generated by the iPhone.

My desired end state is to be able to use map functions from my phone while listening to my car’s SiriusXM. (I do have SiriusXM available from the phone, but I live remotely cross through borders all the time. Satellite radio works in these instances where satellite radio piped through a cell tower does not)

Would love love love it if someone had a solution to this problem.

As far as I know, if you’ve had your phone connected via car play, every time you enter, your car will try to switch to Apple Car play instead of the own entertainment system or other sources. I’ve experienced this with an BMW, Audi and VW so I don’t think it will be different with a Toyota.

I thought I was pretty specific that the problem isn’t the first time I connect the device to the system. It’s after I’ve made a choice of what audio source I want, I do not want to have to make that choice over and over and over and over again as I drive.
