Duplicated Photos on iPhone 14 Pro after Update

So since this latest update, apart from my photos all over the place, My photos are being duplicate on my IPhone, when I plug in to my Macbook Pro. One photo shows as deletable the other is not editable.

How can I delete the not editable ones and also stop this occurring anymore.

I have an Iphone 14 Pro

Are some of these "not editable" or "not deletable" pictures transferred to your phone from some other source like a computer? How did the transfers occur? Through iCloud or with a cable?

Pictures transferred by cable are not in Photos' control, and so they can't be edited or deleted by Photos. Deleting them must be done in the same way they were added. You may need to use the Mac's Finder to delete pictures loaded that way, for instance. I use iCloud, so I'm no expert on this.

Pictures which are not in Photos control can't be compared with others, so they won't appear in Duplicates. If Photos doesn't find any duplicates among those it can check, the the Duplicates view won't appear.

Does this apply to your situation?

The standard method of syncing Photos is with iCloud, so I haven't used cable syncing in a long while, and I can't test it. But I'm pretty sure that pictures transferred by cable have to be deleted with the same method. Also, since Photos doesn't control the transferred pictures, it may be that the Finder can't recognize that pictures are already there when it syncs, and that's what generates duplicates. If you have all these pictures on your computer, it may be best to open a sync and tell it to remove all the pictures from the phone, and start over. I think (sorry for being so flaky) that this will remove only the cable synced pictures. Syncing and removing pictures in a single album to see what happens.

This may help.

Troubleshooting Duplicate Photos:

A. Avoid Using Third-Party Apps for this:

Important: Avoid using Third-Party Apps as they may misconfigure your Photos library. Find More on this Here: Using Third-Party Apps to Remove Duplicate Photos Might Damage your Photos for macOS Library - Apple Support

B. App to Use:

See this 2017 Post's Reply: Duplicates in Photo - Apple Communities. Three (supposedly) safe apps are listed in the link But being authored 7.5 years ago and with another operating system in the day, I suspect this would not be the same case as of this reply. So, contact those developers, and see what they have to say.

C. Creation of Backups:

  • Time Machine Backup:

Important: Today,, Create a Time Machine backup of your Mac(s), so that you can have something to restore your Mac(s) from, should anything go wrong with this.

  • Photos Backup:

Important: Back up the Library in Photos on Mac so that all stays safe for retrieval ---- use an external drive.
