How do I turn off auto start on my MacBook Air?

I am rtying to turn off auto start on my MacBook air - have typed sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00 into terminal and it is asking for password but there is no password on the laptop and so keep getting sorry, try again???? How to bypass the password

You type the password "in the blind", meaning: Terminal will not show you the password as you type it.

You just type the password and press Enter.

The password, as @verjak paw posted, will be the login password of the Mac's user account that has admin privileges.
