Text to speech doesn't work properly on Google Docs

Usually when I select a text in chrome on macos and do Edit>Speech>Start Speeking, it starts text-to-speech. This makes my life easy when I am reading large documents and want to mac to read-out-loud the section I have selected.

The problem is when I try to do it in google docs it never just reads the selection. It starts reading from top of the document. This is extremely annoying especially because a lot of documents now a days are written in Google Docs. Is there a way to get around this issue ?

PS: I have tried the google's text to speech and it sucks compared to the Siri voice recently introduced in macos.
