How do I verify if an iPhone is not iCloud lock or stolen?

I’m am about to buy a used iPhone 15 ProMax 1Tb. How do I verify it to make sure it’s not stolen or iCloud lock? Thank you.

Turn it on and see if it say "hello". You cannot really confirm remotely if a device is ready for another user. Sure, somebody could send you a photo, but is that really a photo of the phone they are selling? I also don't know how you can tell if a device is stolen for sure unless it is in a message showing on the phone that the owner has set. Just because you see a device with activation lock does not necessarily mean it has been stolen.
