How can I stop Safari virus notifications on MacBook with upgraded OS

Since the Apple community generally doesn't recommend antivirus software to be installed, how can I stop the chain of notifications that pop up at the top right of the screen telling me my computer has a virus and McAfee is the solution. My Macbook is running the most up to date OS.
