Is your mail account provider iCloud or another provider such as Google, Microsoft, etc?

If your account provider is a 3rd party (e.g. Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc.):

  1. Delete the email account per Add and remove email accounts on iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  3. Add an email account back per Add and remove email accounts on iPhone - Apple Support

If your email account is through Apple's iCloud then you are likely just logged out of your Apple Account:

  1. Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Touch Settings
  3. Touch [your name] (should be the top-most item within settings)
  4. If prompted, login to your Apple Account
  5. Check that mail is working
