Why are Apple storage upgrades so expensive?

In my old past dealing with Apple and their purchase of memory chips, they would ask us to test all their parts to the extreme so that they would not fail when installed. They paid a premium for their parts as a result that are passed onto the consumer. Apple has very few part failures so their reliability is much higher than other laptop companies.

My friend, we here in the community are just user like yourself. We have no insight into the "Why?" questions people ask. Apple does what Apple does and sets their prices however they do. All we can do is buy or not buy depending on our own standards.
