Progress indicator missing after updating to iPad OS 18

The spinning sprite/ball progress indicator that’s always been there seems to have disappeared since updating from iPadOS17 to 18. Without a fast internet connection, I can’t tell if a web page is in the process of loading or has just failed. Nothing is showing progress that I can see. Can it please come back or is there some other indication happening that I haven’t noticed? Thanks in advance.

Assuming that you are using Safari, you should see a visible indication that a page is loading...



Here you can see a thin blue progress bar - when visible, the relative length of which indicates how much of the page has loaded. You will also see the "X" icon/button that can be used to stop the page loading.


When the page has loaded, the blue progress bar will disappear - and the "X" icon/button is replaced with the Reload icon/button:
