Driver issues with Canon MX410 on macOS Sequoia

Hi folks, recently purchased a MacBook as my wife gifted me one.Been using a PC and still do but may gradually switch over if things seem better on this side, will just keep the PC mainly for gaming at that point. My issue is macOS is unable to find drivers for my Canon MX410 Printer which sucks. I did some searching for 15 minutes but basically Apple using AirPrint software to easily enable and use printers and for device that doesn't support AirPrint you have the option to download drivers from the manufacturer which would enable to use the device. The issue here is Canon provides no support for the device as it's 10+ years old so this includes any software updates which is extremely disappointing. This is a common norm for any other manufacturers as well whether it be HP, Apple or etc.

However on my Windows PC I'm able to easily use my printer with no hassle or issues, the driver is automatically downloaded and available for use through Windows Update allowing full functionality like scanning, faxing, and of course, basic printing. I'm hoping to come across other users who also have come across this issue and has found a workaround this applies to any manufacturers when it comes to the printers as I'm aware of all manufacturers stop supporting the printer, which means the drivers won't work on newer macOS operating systems. I'm going to update this post in a couple hours. I'll try to do some troubleshooting and see if I can find a work around and hopefully I will be able to post a solution to this issue in case anyone in the future comes across this dilemma as well however, if anyone else who sees this post has a solution for the driver issue, that would be amazing. It's just very shocking and surprising that I'm able to use this decade old printer on Windows 11 without having to tinker or spend any time to set it up whereas on macOS Sequoia, I'm unable to do so easily.

Just wanted to drop in and thank @TheLittles and @Jan Hedlund for offering two solutions to this issue. Here's what I actually did that helped me resolve the issue somewhat. I went back to the manufacturer website and downloaded the drivers that were last supported by them on macOS which was Sierra v10.12, doing that I was successfully able to install those drivers and add my printer to be used for printing. Sadly, however the fax function (which I don't require) and the scan function doesn't work for some reason so not a total fix but a workable solution.

I had also scoured on Reddit threads to see if there was a solution, which did provide me an alternative method which I didn't require but did end up testing to get the same results as above. By downloading the "GutenPrint driver" it allowed me to use my printer in the same function, this driver is able to support legacy printers that no longer are maintained by manufacturers allowing it to be easily useable on macOS. I hope that this information helps someone in the future who may come across this issue with the same printer or any other brand before giving up hope easily.

Thank you for the information. Yes, this confirms that it may be worth testing older and not supported drivers as well.

Was it the 09.09.21 MX410 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver.16.10.0.0 (Mac) from Canon U.S.A. that worked under macOS Sequoia?

DOWNLOADS -> Software & Drivers -> 1. Mac -> 2. macOS Sierra v10.12 -> 3. Software and Driver Results.

Alternatively, from Canon Europe:

Have you tried Apple's Image Capture for scanning (with an appropriate ICA driver)? There is also a (paid) third-party product called VueScan (https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/canon_mx410.html).

Using an Older Printer on a Mac:

You can create a Virtual Machine of a compatible Windows version, and then print directly off of it. Note that Silicon Macs only support Window 11 and after, when it comes to VMWare Fusion. Thi sis how I use my non-macOS compatible hardware and softer on my Mac.

Avoidance of Third-Party Drivers:

I stay away from Third-Party drivers. I recommend all others do the same. Get them from the Manufacturer, and none other. Elsewise, you may end up installing malware and creating misconfigurations.
