In and of itself that will not extend the overall life of the battery. It is designed to allow you to extend the use or the computer on its current charge if plugging in the computer is not convenient at the moment. It simply puts the brakes on the performance of the machine by throttling down the CPU and other functions.

The best option for modern Mac laptops is to plug it into ac power when that is available and use the battery if you have to be mobile. Let the MacBook's charging circuits and the macOS manage the battery charging.
