Firewire to thunderbolt 4

To record DV8 videos on my Macbook 4 pro I'm looking for a Firewire to Thunderbolt 4 adapter to connect the camrecorder. Til now I only find Firewire to Thunderbolt 3 adapters on internet. Does these adapters work on thunderbolt 4 also?

I don't know of any adapters that go directly from Thunderbolt 3, 4, or 5 to FireWire – or any Thunderbolt 3, 4, or 5 docks that have a FireWire port. It's theoretically possible to build some, but I don't think any vendors have done it.

Apple used to have a Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 adapter that you could daisy-chain with the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Unfortunately, they discontinued it, and it has since disappeared from just about all retail channels.

As an option you might look into direct video capture on the Mac.

Elgato has been doing this with hardware and software for the Mac for years. It does require that the video is streamed in real time to the Mac from a camera or other video player through a capture card hardware, so maybe that isn't practical for you, especially if you have lots of vids to import. But they do have software and hardware they claim is Apple silicon compatible.

The data rates of most camcorders are FAR too high and too timing sensitive to be taken into the Mac in real time.

Once the camera records, it digitizes and packages up the data into packets, that can easily be copied to the computer over the interface you are building.

Capture Video data? not possible

Transfer already captured and packetized data? YES.
