snowfall predictions in apple weather don’t make sense
There was a thread about this exact problem 1 yr ago that was never solved and I don’t feel like retyping everything, so please check that first for more details, but it contains no answers.
Many people suggested Apple better explain what the differing numbers mean, and it looks like they’ve expanded but not clearly. They break down snowfall by hour and the “daily summary” is phrased to be longer, but I still have no idea why the bottom says we got 61”, but instead 4.25” up at the top. Plus, the actual depth was 10” around 11am and has maybe doubled (i’m not going outside to measure, but the fire hydrant across the street is probably 2/3s buried). When other people had this problem, the smaller number seemed to still be accurate but not here.
They’re also missing that the snowfall has remained consistent since late last night, not slowing down and we definitely have more than 4.25”. That’s a different problem regarding Apple Weather’s accuracy and I’m more confused about the 61” and 34”. However, I do find it interesting that they link the emergency warning (2nd pic) containing this information but the weather app doesn’t reflect it, except potentially in the 34”. in the coming 24 hrs? But that’s a different sentence, one that seems to be including the previous snowfall, leaving only 0.1” to be expected in the future. It could be dangerous if people expect conditions to improve when they won’t.
I know my ios isn’t fully up to date, but everyone around me is seeing the same thing and none of us understand it.
