Apple Maps on CarPlay - HUD doesn't adjust when needing to reroute

I've been using Apple Maps via CarPlay on my 2024 GMC Yukon because it allows me to stay within the CarPlay platform AND it gives me access to heads up display (whereas Waze or Google Maps on CarPlay do not have HUD). If I miss a turn in the navigation, the heads up display arrows will not adjust. It will just get stuck on whatever the last turn should have been. I then need to stop the navigation and restart it for it to "wake up" again. Any ideas on how to avoid this?

Also to add, the Google Maps navigation (on the vehicle, not via CarPlay) is far superior to the Apple Maps ... but I don't like how an incoming text or phone call or access to music makes the map go away and I then have to tap around on the screen to get back to the map view. So using the embedded navigation, despite its pros, is not worth it for me when I'd prefer to stay within CarPlay.
