MacBook Pro issues updating to newer OS

I recently tried to upgrade my 2019 MacBook Pro to Sequoia. Kept getting error message (can't recall original error message), so decided to perform a factory reset. During the reset and specifically with installing the latest available OS, Sequoia, I kept getting a message that "Installation cannot proceed because the installer is damaged".

Here is detailed scenario:

  • After several tries with Sequoia, I gave up and rebooted to get option to install original OS, Catalina.
  • Catalina installed successfully
  • I am now logged into Apple ID
  • Tried to update to Sequoia via system updates but got same error message (see image)
  • Deleted installer and emptied trash
  • Downloaded Sequoia installer via Apps
  • Same results
  • Took same steps with Sonoma and got same results

Any advice on why I keep getting this error message ""Installation cannot proceed because the installer is damaged" and how to circumvent this issue?

Thanks

Update: Issue Resolved

The steps below resolved the issue. Capturing here in case others have same issues.

  • Launched computer in standard mode
  • Ran disk utility from Launchpad
  • Ran Firstaid for every "internal volume" that appeared in left rail
    • Essentially ensured all volumes were repaired if necessary
  • Restarted computer
  • ran Sequoia installer from Launchpad
  • Installer completed process successfully

Update: I tried the safe mode installation and unfortunately received a different error message (see image). Here are the details:

  • Rebooted into Safe Mode and verified through system information
  • Deleted installer and emptied trash
  • Downloaded Sequoia again through App Store
  • Started installation through Launchpad
  • Proceed for a few minutes and then following error message popped up "an error occurred loading the update"

If your download speed is suspect get on a faster Network.

You can try running the installer from a SafeBoot mode and compare your results

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

if you have the full installer ~14.9 GB downloaded, it will be sitting in your Applications folder "Install macOS Sequoia.app" You launch it like any other applications from there.
