18.2.1. New update same email issue

Updated to 18.2.1. Same iOS email issue. Before you were able to disconnect the vpn and your email would work. Now you can’t disconnect the vpn. The disconnecting the VPN was a quick fix but not a permanent one. Now you cannot disconnect the vpn. (Which is a good security measure). And I can not send email through the iOS mail app. Thank the heavens for Microsoft and Google 🩷. If it weren’t for them and there superior email technology. We would be sending out regular snail mail! We paid for this Apple. Fix this!

Not sure about the downloading. 18 on iPhone and 15 on Mac seems to have caused problems with lots of aspects of mail. Mine's OK, but there are a few threads around where people are having this problem but no obvious fix.

This is a long shot, and if it works I don't understand why but try Settings/Apps/Mail, scroll down a bit, hit "Privacy Settings" and play with the three options (Protect mail, hide IP, Block remote content) to see if they fix it. It's a long shot, so no gurarantees. If you do change them and it works then it's probably worth have a read online to make sure you understand what you've changed and what it means (if anything) for your privacy.

It’s working for me with a 2 minute delay. Since 18.2 I had to turn off wifi (on iPhone) and use cellular to get gmail. For iPad I hot-spotted it to iPhone (which triggers it to use cellular) to get mail. Just updated both devices to 18.2.1, and now with wifi only… When a email comes in (google pushes this), mail app says Connecting, then exactly 2 minutes later the email is downloaded and readable. While not optimal this works for me. I suspect the fix was to add a timeout somewhere. What would be cool is if the user could toggle a switch to skip whatever has to be timed out so we can fetch mail immediately.

iPad using 18.2.1. Mail counts incorrect, app hangs “connecting”. Doesn’t always synch mail changes. No privacy settings engaged, so it isn’t private relay, etc. problem. Only thing that seems to work is to force quit the app, reopen it so it will synch, then force close it again so it will work the next time I open it.

Update to my previous post, next day. Getting intermittent results. Over wifi, iPhone downloaded mail fine. iPad hung indeffinitely on either Checking or Downloading. Tried the usual: kill email, reconnect to wifi, toggle account mail off/on. Nadda. Connecting iPad to iPhone as hotspot worked fine. Not cool. Come-on Apple. You made the change, not us. Please rig a switch to override whatever is causing this problem!

I have this problem and am speaking to Apple support about it. We have been doing screen sharing and uploading logs. Have another meeting with them today.

Mail not working properly on my home WiFi (Vodafone) on my iPad.

Works fine if hotspotting to my phone data (not Vodafone).

Took iPad to work and connected to different WiFi and it worked ok.

Thinking the issue could be my home WiFi which is with Vodafone.

Anyone else with Vodafone home internet?

With OS 18.2.1 on iPhone 13, Settings > Apps > messages > Privacy Protection > I have only one option [not 3] Protect Mail Activity on/off. There is an option to load remote images but when enabled a few images may be loaded but not The Guardian, The New Yorker, nor Wired, ArtDaily Newsletter, to name a couple. Seems to be principally newsletters/subscriptions that are at issue, but also photographs appended to emails. I don't see any other applicable options for mail.

Thank you Zurarczurx, but no joy so far. Do any of the above clues help ?

Thank you Zurarczurx ! That worked. Then I was able to remove the category logos from my inbox list by disabling the Show Photos option from my gmail feed in Apple Mail.

I still have the problem [which seems to have arrived with an OS 18 upgrade] in my separate .org domain feed of This message has not been downloaded from the server on all attachments received. This sounds more like a bug than a feature. How can I fix this ? or can I ?
